NFL WEEK 3 AGAINST THE SPREAD PICKS

BEETWO NFL AGAINST THE SPREAD PICKS

Giants -3.5 Redskins

Surprisingly this may be an interesting game.  With Philly’s bad play and Dallas losing Romo and Dez these two teams have a much better chance of winning this division than we thought week 1. The Giants have had the Redskins numbers for the past few seasons and I go with them.

Giants -3.5

Steelers -1.5 and Rams

Week 1 the Steelers put up a decent effort against the Pats and the Rams looked like a playoff team.  Back to earth now the Steelers are pretty good and they are getting Bell back in the run game.  Rams have a great D but go with the best QB on the road, I am not a big Foles fan.

Steelers -1.5

Vikings -2.5   Chargers

Both of these are pretty decent teams and maybe one of the hardest picks of the week. The Vikings are home but I will take the Chargers in this because I really don’t like how Vikings lost to a not so good 49ers team in week 1

Chargers +2.5

Housten -6.5   Bucs

The Bucs absolutely stunk in the first week against the Titans.  I was really wondering if Winston was a bust in the first week.  Week 2 he showed he has the arm and may have potential to break the mold of Heisman winners at QB not being good in the NFL.  Housten probably has the better defense with 2 third string QBs.  Housten may win this one but I think famous Jaemis keeps it close.

Bucs +6.5

Jets -2.5     Eagles

Who would have thought the Jets would be 2-0 and eagles 0-2. Seems they are going in opposite directions. Fitz has looked good at QB the first couple weeks and the Jets D look great.  The eagles however do have a good amount of offensive weapons and Chip is starting to feel the heat after all his offseason moves. Be prepared for Chip to compromise his system a bit to get their first win because hes desperate.

Eagles +2.5

Panthers -6.5    Saints

The Panthers are not an offensive juggernaut by any means but this one is easy.  Drew brees may or may not play.  Even if he does though Carolina defense is pretty good that paired with them being home and Saints offensive being very watered down since trading Jimmy Graham.

Panthers -6.5

Pats -13.5   Jags

New England looks incredible. The jags beat my team Miami last week and Miami really stunk it up.  New England wont make the same mistake especially at home.  Look for Pats to put up over 40 points and Bortles to get a beaten.

Pats -13.5

Ravens -2.5   Bengals

Division games are usually tough to call.  The ravens have been known for tough D from I started watching football.  This year however they seem soft especially with the loss of Suggs.  The Bengals have had ravens number for the past few seasons and they are a better team.  Flaco is better than Dalton  but since this is not a playoff game go Dalton

Bengals +2.5

Browns -3.5   Raiders

Raiders to win 2 in a row? What year is this? Yep believe it.  Raiders are not a great team but they will be good for 6 or 7 games this year. Starting McCown for browns is about as exciting as kissing your sister.  Expect for the Browns to lose. if Manziel started I would probably pick Browns not because he is great but he brings a spark.

Raiders +3.5

Colts -3.5    Titans

The colts really let me down the first 2 weeks and looked terrible.  The offence is in shambles, running game is not what it was thought to be.  Gore and Johnson seem to only add age to the roster so far.  their defense is nothing to brag about either.  On the other hand Mariota is not what he showed in week 1 and will put up a game similar to last week this week. Run with Colts.

Colts -3.5

Atlanta -1.5    Cowboys

Before their injuries Dallas looked poised to be a real Superbowl contender.  That being said i think they have a complete team that could still make the playoffs.  this week however while they decide whether they will keep Weeden or start Cassell until Romo returns I think the ATL gets the best of them.

ATL -1.5

Arizona -6.5      49ers

49ers are not as bad as we thought they was but don’t mistake that for being good.  The Steelers could be charged with assult for what they did to them last week and Arizona should get the death penalty for what they will do this week.  Cards roll

Arizona -6.5

Seattle -14.5  Bears

I hate high point spreads but this one I will have to go with.  The hawks offence is slowly coming together and the addition of Chancellor in the D should give them an advantage.  Jimmy Clausen is about to be lunch meat

Seattle -14.5

Miami -3     Buffalo

Miami is my team and we have been playing real bad. This one is a tough one for me because Bills have owned us and Rex Ryan has had success against us.  I think it will be a close game and if Miami wins it will be 3 or less

Buffalo +3

Denver -3    Detroit

So far this season Detroit has not looked that good at all Denver has a fierce D that causes alot of turnovers.  Some people feel that Manning has lost it and its probably his last season.  I think its possible its his last season but he hasn’t lost it. The coach tried to put in a new offence and so far it has failed.  They will go back to the usual offence this week expect Peyton to throw 4TDs

Denver -3

Green bay -6.5   Chiefs

The Chiefs are a good team but they are on the road against one of the best QB’s in the league.  Rodgers numbers and stats at home are great.  And they win by  more than a TD.

Green bay -6.5

NFL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND RECAP

Image

NFL CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND RECAP

Starting off I will admit that I was 0-2 this weekend but there were certain keys two both games that I will go into.  This was one of the greatest football weekends in a long time.

I wondered at the beginning of the weekend why wasn’t the Patriots Broncos game the last one seeing that it had the marquee matchup with Brady and Manning.  I guess however the NFL knew what it was doing when it put the 49ers and Seahawks game for primetime.  The key to this game was when Talib went out of the game; That pretty much sealed the Patriots fate. All of the time that he was in he was able to shut down Demarius Thomas and when he went out Thomas was able to shred their not so good defense.  Make no mistake  that the scheming by Belichick actually gave them a chance defensively but eventually their flaws were exposed because Denver has way too much weapons.  The Pats should be applauded for their success so far because they have done so without alot of key pieces.  On the offense Welker was now on the Broncos, Hernandez is in jail, Gronk out again and besides Edelman they have no real receiver because Amandola has not lived up to expectation.  On defense big pieces like Spikes and Wilfork didn’t play.  In the end Congrats to the Broncos but would have hoped that pats had more of their people so we could have had a better game.

San Fran and Seattle OMG!!!!!! this game might be better than the superbowl.  It was the perfect game; one that it was a 50 / 50 chance for anyone to win in the last 50 seconds.  It was a great game and who could have asked for more. It did prove one thing that I have been saying in the past; that Kapernick was not playing well as a quarterback.  This was against the best defense in the league and it showed his flaws.  His running ability and strong arm allowed him in the past to get away with some fundamental mistakes in the past but not against this amazing defense.  He ran very well in this game but he threw badly.  I think he gave up on alot of plays and instead of using his legs to open up passes downfield he chose to run alot of the times.  Make no mistake he was successful in the running game but he made too many mistakes.  He tried to fit in balls that were bad decisions and on that last play instead of throwing up a ball that only Crabtree can catch; he threw a jumpball into double coverage.  Coach made one big mistake and it was not in this game.  His big mistake was picking Kapernick over Alex Smith.  Alex Smith would not have made those bad throws and I believe with him they might have won the superbowl last year.  But on to the NFC champions; Pete Carroll came up with one hell of a game plan.  Percy Harvin was out and I was surprised the offensive output that Seattle had.  The 3 receivers Baldwin, Tate and Kearse showed toughness and big play ability.  Russell Wilson was able to extend alot of plays with his legs and besides his opening drive fumble took care of the ball well most of the game.  The defining moment however was what Seattle thrived in during the year….their defense.  Richard Sherman was a stud as usual and made an amazing athletic play to tip the ball and enable the interception.  he deserves the player of the game award and I am happy for a team like Seattle who have come a long way.

NFC AND AFC CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND PREDICTIONS

Image

NFC AND AFC CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND

This weekend will be an amazing one of football.  Regardless of regular season records for both conferences most people felt that these were the 4 best teams this year and they made it.

We will start off with the NFC which should be one of the great defensive battles of all time.  Both teams are sort of mirror images of each other.  They both have amazing running games and very athletic quarterbacks.  Seattle should have the advantage when you compare the defensive backs and San Fran may have a slight advantage when it comes to the defensive line.  Kapernick is faster to me than Wilson but Wilson makes the best decisions and is the better quarterback.  49ers by far have a better receiving corp with Crabtree, Davis and Boldin which should be a great matchup against the Seahawks amazing secondary.  Gore and Lynch are both physical “grinders” at running back but Lynch is faster and I would pick him out of the 2.  Truth is this is one of my hardest picks ever and I am thinking this may go into overtime which will be classic.  Two great coaches who players love to play for.  I have to go with the momentum that the 49ers have and pick them to win.  Whether Percy Harvin can play or not will have a big impact on the game.

49ers 19 Seahawks 16

The AFC Championship is like the headliner of a major boxing match. Manning and Brady is what everyone wants to see.  It is kind of sad both are in the AFC so we will never see a Manning / Brady Superbowl but this is the next best thing.  Starting off with coaches John Fox is a good coach but Belichick is incredible and may go down as the best ever.  It is going to always be an argument between which QB is the best.  Manning is thought to be the better regular season QB while Brady has had more success in the post season.  Peyton has 3 great receivers, great running back and a great tight end.  Brady has some unknowns and 2 solid receivers.  It is basically two great offences against two average defenses.  Both teams have great run games that are based on the explosiveness of their pass games.  In the end it will be Belichick with his great planning that pulls of the win.

SATURDAY RECAP OF NFL PLAYOFFS

Image

SATURDAY RECAP OF NFL PLAYOFFS

Well I can say if you look at my earlier picks I am 2-0 so far eventhough my point prediction in the Patriots game was off.  Seahawks dominated the game against the Saints as I expected.  I observed something from a few Saints defensive backs I didn’t like though.  Yes I know Harvin had not played for awhile and he wasn’t in great game shape but I think some of the hits he got were sinister in nature.

Seattle home crowd were great and didn’t mind braving the rain to give them awesome support and help disrupt the Saints offence. Sean Payton is a great coach but so is Pete Carroll and although Payton’s gameplan was good, Seattle’s defense was better.  Russell Wilson played OK he did not do anything particularly special but he didn’t make any costly mistakes.  Marshawn Lynch seemed to be the hero again in another game against the Saints.  The Saints D put on a pretty decent show but Lynch was definitely in Beastmode again.  Losing the division and homefield advantage to Carolina caused the Saints to have an early exit to the playoffs.

Moving on to the Patriots and the Colts.  This game displayed how great Andrew Luck is in only his second year.  He delivered pin point accurate throws down the field for big plays.  He was able to escape alot of the pressure that was on him in the pocket.  He was able to keep the Colts in the game a few times when the Patriots seemed to be on the verge of pulling away.  That aside he still showed signs of a 2nd year player by throwing multiple interceptions this week but unlike last week he was against a team that wouldn’t give up a big lead.  The odds were against the Colts this week because first off they were playing in Gillette Stadium which is a very tough place to play. They were also playing against Bill Bilicheck after he had a week off to make a game plan.  They were playing Tom Brady who I believe is having a MVP type season considering his limited receivers. The pats did something unexpected though; they ran the ball….ALOT.  6 Touchdowns rushing to be exact and none passing for Brady.  This game was more than a win it was a message to their next opponent.  This is something to confuse them so they really don’t know if they should plan for the pass or the run.

Aside

DIVISIONAL

THE DIVISIONAL ROUND PLAYOFFS

Chargers and the Broncos

Let’s start off with the Chargers and the Broncos.  Peyton Manning is one of the best QB’s ever if not the best.  His only critisicm is that he can’t play in cold and he is not as great in the playoffs.  The cold itself may not be a factor maybe it’s just playing away from home that might be a little difficult for him.  The reality of it all is that Peyton isnt completely to blame for when his teams failed in playoffs past.  Teams in the playoffs make their defensive schemes to take away Manning and the rest of the team does not step up that is why they lose.  Denver is a team that has alot of pressure on it.  It is not one of them teams that sees going to the playoffs as an accomplishment; they are built to win now and anything short of at least a Superbowl appearance is not accepatble.  Philip Rivers is an amazing QB and the Chargers are playing with house money.  These guys with skill and alot of luck got into the playoffs so it is an exciting ride and I don’t think it will end this week.  It will be a very close game it could be a shootout but the Chargers will find a way to pull it out because these teams see each other twice a year.

CHARGERS 34 BRONCOS 31

Colts and Patriots

The matchup that most people would love is if Broncos won and Colts won this week so that the AFC Championship would be Luck against his predecessor Manning.  Sorry to say that won’t happen this year.  The Patriots will win this one.  Andrew Luck showed us last week that in his second year he is even better than we thought.  They proved to be a team that despite losing a big piece in Reggie Wayne; they came together and steped up to the occasion.  This game will definitely be close and despite the power of both offences it may be relatively low scoring.  This year Brady is playing lights out and no the stats are not there to prove that.  They have lost Gronk, Hernandez and Welker which were Brady main targets and Brady was still able to get 12 wins.  With a week off to prepare expect Belicheck and Brady to be ready to win.

PATS 27 COLTS 20

Panthers and 49ers

The Panthers deserve alot of praise for turning around their season after starting slow they finished very strong.  Cam Newton has matured through this season and is showing why he is a superstar.  They have a great running game and dominate the line of scrimage.  Their defence is one of the best in the league. They however will not win this game they have no chance.  These teams have played earlier this year and Carolina came out with the win.  This time the 49ers will come out with the victory.  These teams are known for the same things.  They all run the ball well, have QB’s who are athletic, great defences and can dominate the clock.  The difference in this is Michael Crabtree.  This one man changes 49ers from an average offence to a very good one.  Their passing game will be the key and Carolina only has Steve Smith who is a real receiver. San Fran had Boldin and davis all year but that 3rd  reciever will be a big impact.

49ERS 24  PANTHERS 13

Saints and Seahawks

Sean Payton is an amazing coach and showed last week that the Saints can pull off a win on the road in the playoffs.  He will be doing things to try and simulate the envirnoment they will be in this week in Seattle.  Truth is though the Saints defence has lost some key people on defence and despite Rob Ryan being a good defensive coordinator they won’t be able to hold Seattle in check.  Seattle does not have an amazing passing offence but their great running game allow for a decent pass game.  Drew Brees will have a difficult night against this amazing defence seeing that the Eagles defence made it hard for him.  Seattle’s defence will show up in a big way in this game and help Seattle to make it to next week to face San Fran.

THE NFL MVP

THE NFL MVP

MVP of course is short for Most valuable Player and everyone has their only criteria for judging who is the best. For me it means the player…who if removed would have the greatest negative impact on the team. Of course to even be in contention for this award for the most part your team has to have some reasonably high amount of sucess for that year. All this being said the MVP award will come down to two player…arguably 2 of the best QB of all time. Brady vs Manning.

This year Peyton manning is playing light out. He has just passed Brady’s TD record for the year. He is passing for an incredible amount of yards and for some people he is the clear MVP. I however feel that this year he does not deserve the award this year…YEP I SAID IT. 2 years ago Tim tebow took these same Denver Broncos to the playoffs and actually won the wildcard game. Manning now has 2 other weapons…the tight end Thomas and Wes welker that Tebow didnt have. Now of course Manning vs Tebow will never be a discussion but it shows that Manning is surrounded by Great talent.

Tom Brady on the other hand has not had a great reciver since Randy Moss. Tom Brady has never really been blessed with great recievers like Manning but he gets it done. Brady had 2 great TE’s one now in jail and the other injured most of the season. He is throwing to guys like Thompkins…one new TE whose name sounds like Honolulu and making it work. Make no mistake if Brady is out the Pats are dead in the water. Belicheck is probably the best coach in the nfl but seeing that alot of the other positions have rookies their abilities to win would be limited.

So to end it all Tom Brady is the obvious MVP.  What he has done with the little talent he has around them he has made them better.  He has put his team in a position to win another title and is your obvious MVP this year
